J.R.R. Tolkien for the New Year

As I look forward to the coming year I draw comfort and a reminder of the the work that is to be done in a passage from J.R.R. Tolkien that is framed in our office

"The Rule of no realm is mine,
but all worthy things that are in peril as the world
now stands, those are my care.
And for my part, I shall not wholly fail in my task
if anything passes through this night
that can still grow fair or bear fruit
and flower again in days to come.
For I too am a steward. Did you not know?"

'Tis true we are in some dark times, but Tolkien reminds us that we do have a stewardship to follow and with a resolute heart we may make a difference.

For me, this is not only a New Year's resolution, but one for each and every day of the year.

Blessings,

Duncan

  2. Thanks Leanne...I have been quite envious of your photographs and have been meaning to ask you about your work. (I am used to the old SLR cameras with film, and think I really must get into the digital age!).
And glad you love the Tolkien quote...I found myself getting goosebumps (again) as I typed it for the blog.

  4. Well, I frequently have to deal with either Bianca or Sushi demanding attention from my keyboard activities!
